Five Benefits of a Hardship License in Massachusetts

You are here: Home / Mass. Hardship Licenses / Five Benefits of a Hardship License in Massachusetts

March 7, 2018 By Attorney Brian E. Simoneau

If you have your driver’s license suspended in the state of Massachusetts, it won’t take long to find out just how much of an impact this is going to have on your daily life. Without the ability to drive legally, you will suddenly feel stuck and trapped. You may not be able to make it to and from work in a timely manner, which could put your income and livelihood in jeopardy. No matter what it was that caused your license to be suspended in the first place, getting back on the road will likely be one of your top priorities. Fortunately, it is possible for some with a suspended or even a revoked license to obtain a hardship license in Massachusetts.

Getting a hardship license in Massachusetts will allow you to drive again.

This hardship license will allow you to drive legally once again, although only under certain conditions. You will be restricted to driving during certain hours of the day. The restrictions placed on your hardship license will be determined based on the reason for your license suspension, and you’ll need to meet certain criteria to be eligible for a hardship license.

So, what are the benefits of obtaining a hardship license? Consider the following five points.

#1 – Maintain the Status Quo

Obtaining a hardship license in Massachusetts likely won’t allow you to keep up with your normal day to day lifestyle, but it will get you a lot closer than not having a license at all. You should be able to get to work each day, and you should be able to handle other chores like going to the grocery store, doctor’s office, etc. When your license is suspended, many of these things that you normally take for granted quickly become a serious challenge. By managing to acquire your hardship license, you can get your life at least partially back on track.

#2 – Keep Up with Your Bills

One of the main problems for those with a suspended license is falling behind on bills. If you aren’t able to get to and from your job on time each day, you may not be able to make as much money as normal – or you might not make any money at all. This is stressful, to say the least, and it could potentially do serious damage to your credit score. Even when your license is eventually reinstated, you will have a big financial problem to deal with. With any luck, a hardship license in Massachusetts can help you avoid all this trouble. If you are able to drive to and from work, you can keep the money flowing, and you can keep paying your bills.

#3 – Get to School

If your license has been suspended while you are in school, your whole educational plan could be in jeopardy. You need to attend class regularly to graduate in a timely manner and get to work in the real world. But will you be able to get to school each day if you have a suspended license? Maybe not. This is another case where a hardship license in Massachusetts may be able to help you keep your life on track for the future. Sure, a suspended license is not the same as having your full license, but it can allow you to get through this tough time.

#4 – Maintain a Positive Attitude

There is an emotional element to having your driver’s license suspended that cannot be overlooked here. Even if you know that you deserved to have your license suspended, and even if you have committed to changing your habits and behaviors moving forward, losing the ability to drive can take its toll on your overall attitude. With a hardship license in Massachusetts, you may be able to continue to see the bright side as you move forward. You won’t have the full freedom that you had with a regular license, but you won’t be stuck at home, either.

#5 – Help Others

Depending on your position in life, you may have others who rely on you for a variety of things. If you can obtain a hardship license to get back on the road, that may make all the difference in terms of keeping up with your responsibilities. No one wants to have their suspended license affect others in their life, but that is exactly what will happen in many cases. Take steps to get approved for a hardship license and you can do your best to hold up your duties to those important people in your life.

It’s not much fun to have to apply for a hardship license in Massachusetts, but it may be your best bet when faced with a license suspension. By following all of the necessary steps, you can give yourself the best possible chance to be approved. And, of course, if you do secure a hardship license, it is important to follow the conditions of the license carefully in order to avoid further trouble. Good luck!
