You Don’t Need a Massachusetts Hardship License Lawyer – Right?

You are here: Home / News / You Don’t Need a Massachusetts Hardship License Lawyer – Right?

November 4, 2018 By Attorney Brian E. Simoneau

When you think about someone hiring a lawyer, you typically think about big criminal cases, or domestic matters. For instance, someone would hire a lawyer if they are charged with a major crime, or if they are going to file for divorce. But certainly, you wouldn’t need to hire a lawyer just to work through a problem with your driver’s license, right? Don’t be so sure.

The Temptation of Hiring A Hardship License Lawyer

To be sure, the temptation to skip out on hiring a lawyer will be strong. After all, it is not a requirement to use the services of a Massachusetts hardship license lawyer during this process. So, why bother? There are a few potential benefits involved with using the services of a lawyer, and they all come back to the same goal – successfully obtaining a hardship license in the state of Massachusetts.

No Guarantees

Before we get too far into this article, it does need to be made clear that there is nothing you can do to guarantee that you’ll be given a hardship license by the state of Massachusetts. Each case is considered on its own merit, and you can be denied at the discretion of the RMV. We do think that choosing to work with a Massachusetts hardship license lawyer is a wise move for the reasons we will discuss below, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that this is a sure thing.

The Advantage of Experienced Hardship License Lawyer’s

Without a doubt, one of the biggest reasons to work with a hardship license lawyer in this case is simply the experience that he or she will bring to the table. Most likely, you haven’t been through this before. Sure, you can read up on what is required and what steps you should be taking, but will you understand all of that material properly? Making even a minor mistake could lead to trouble with your application. There is no reason to take a chance on making a simple mistake when you can employ the help of an attorney to make sure things are done properly.

Another benefit that comes with experience is the confidence that you will gain knowing you have someone working with you that has done this before. It’s easy to become anxious and nervous about the application process when it is your first time. With a lawyer available to help you, it will be easy to get the answers you need to questions that may be rolling around in your mind.

Hold Yourself Accountable

It is easy to let things slide when you are caught up in the busy routine of day to day life. If you decide to pursue a hardship license all on your own, it may be that you wind up putting the task off for a while – and it may never get done at all. Don’t let procrastination keep you from working toward your hardship license in Massachusetts. When you retain the services of a lawyer, you’ll naturally be more inclined to keep this process moving along. You will have all of the instructions you need to move forward, and you will have a resource available if you get stuck along the way.

An Honest Evaluation

One of the things that you’ll likely struggle to do if you go into this process on your own is evaluate your chances of success. You are always going to see your own case in a positive light, even if you actually face an uphill battle to receive your hardship license. By working with a lawyer who is experienced in this kind of work, you can receive an honest evaluation of what your chances are to actually be successful. The information you receive might not necessarily be what you want to hear, but it will be helpful nonetheless.

If your lawyer informs you that your chances do not look good for being approved as things currently stand, there might be actions you can take to improve your odds. By taking a bit of time to work on things before going through with the application process, the outcome might wind up working in your favor. It would be difficult to determine the quality of your own case when working through this process alone, so the presence and guidance of a lawyer could wind up making a huge difference.

When you look at the big picture of what it means to obtain a Massachusetts hardship license and get back on the road, working with a lawyer seems like a wise decision. While you could choose to go it alone, and you might be successful, there is a lot to be gained by accessing the experience and knowledge of a lawyer.
